Wellesley College Athletic Hall of Fame Criteria:

Membership into the Wellesley College Athletic Hall of Fame may include any former student athlete, head coach or athletics administrator who has: made an impact on the athletic and college community; brought distinction to the athletic program; significantly benefited the college; and displays outstanding character, leadership, commitment, sportsmanship, and integrity. Student athletes should ideally have participated for a minimum of three years in their respective sport(s) and head coaches and athletics administrators must not be currently on staff.  Student-Athletes are eligible to be nominated ten years after graduation. (i.e. Members of the class of 2004 are eligible for nomination in the fall of 2014). Further, a Wellesley College team, which has distinguished itself through high achievement or singular regional or national level accomplishment, may be nominated ten or more years after the accomplishment. (i.e. Championship occurs in the 2001-2002 academic year, team would be eligible for nomination in the fall of 2011). Nominations are eligible posthumously.

Categories & Qualifications for Nomination:

Student-Athlete – A student-athlete must have brought distinction to the athletic program by achieving a significant milestone, which may include exposure to NCAA championships and/or competition at the national level.

Head Coach and/or Athletics Administrator – A head coach or athletics administrator must have worked at Wellesley College and concluded his or her employment in order to be nominated.

Varsity Team – The team must have brought distinction to the athletic program by achieving a significant milestone, which may include consecutive years of exposure in NCAA championships and/or a significant competitive accomplishment on a national level.

Relay or Doubles Teams - A doubles team, relay team, or boat consisting of two or more individuals must have brought distinction to the athletic program by achieving a significant milestone, which may include consecutive years of exposure in NCAA championships and/or a significant competitive accomplishment at the national level.  This group’s accomplishment must have occurred at least ten years prior to nomination and possible selection.  A relay, doubles team, or boat will fill one of the four spots designated for the Hall of Fame in a given year.

All nominations must be submitted online and should include a written statement (maximum 750 words) detailing why the nominee or team is an outstanding candidate for the Wellesley College Athletic Hall of Fame. The selection committee should identify all achievements, honors, or awards that apply to the nominee or team on the nomination form with verification from the PERA department and review.  Nomination information will be verified by the Sports Information Department with support of the Wellesley College archives. The nominator may be asked to provide additional information to support the nomination.

Additional Information:

  • Anyone may submit a nomination for the Athletic Hall of Fame however; the nomination should remain confidential to the greatest extent. 

  • The nomination process will be done online as consistent with other Friends of Athletics and PERA awards.

  • No more than four honorees will be inducted each year, the majority of whom should be student athletes. An exception may be made for the Inaugural Class and/or significant extenuating circumstances.

  • An individual honoree will be asked to identify an individual to serve as their presenter (i.e. prepared remarks limited to 5-8 minutes). The honoree will also have an opportunity to share prepared acceptance remarks. The honoree may also be asked to submit any photos from their time at Wellesley.

  • A team will be asked to identify an individual to serve as their presenter (i.e. prepared remarks limited to 5-8 minutes). A team representative will also have an opportunity to share prepared acceptance remarks. The members of the team may also be asked to submit any photos from their time at Wellesley.

  • All honorees will be given a commemorative plaque as well as a photo, if available, from playing time at Wellesley.

  • All members of a team will be given a commemorative gift.

  • Induction classes will occur in the fall every two years beginning in 2014.

  • A Nominee remains eligible for consideration for up to six years.  After six years another nomination is required.
