Lacrosse Falls to SUNY Cortland in Florida

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – SUNY Cortland performed well across all four quarters in a 20-1 win over Wellesley College lacrosse on Wednesday as part of the Spring Fling Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

The Dragons (3-2) saw goals from 15 different players, evenly dispersing the scoring throughout. Junior Hanna Lebens (Setauket, N.Y.) and sophomore Taylor Mullins (Penn Yan, N.Y.) both won five draw controls. Goalies Trinity Parks (Port Crane, N.Y.) and Mia Bella Love (Mineola, N.Y.) both stopped a pair of shots.

First-year Milica Simic (Park Ridge, Ill.) recorded the lone goal for the Blue (2-4). Simic leads the team with 22 scores through six games this year (3.67 per game). Classmate Eliza Wysong (Kansas City, Mo.) scooped up three ground balls with three draw controls. Senior Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) sent back six shots while first-year Scarlett McArthur (Toronto, Ontario) saved two.

Cortland recorded eight goals in the opening period to get out to a commanding lead. The team ran it up to 10-0 midway through the second quarter before Simic converted on a free-position shot to get Wellesley on the board.

SUNY put one more in before halftime and shut the Blue out, 9-0, in the second half. The Dragons ended the game with a 32-7 advantage in shots taken and converted on all 13 clear attempts.

Wellesley returns to Butler Stadium to host Emerson College in NEWMAC play on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 PM. SUNY Cortland plays Hartwick College as part of the Spring Fling on Thursday, March 19.
