Goldfarb Earns Post-Season Recognition from NEWMAC/CoSIDA
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College junior Lauren Goldfarb was honored by both the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) with post-season awards.
Goldfarb was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference first team following a vote of the league's coaches. She was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District Softball first team for her work on the field and in the classroom, as voted on by CoSIDA.
A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Goldfarb was Wellesley's leadoff hitter, racking up a .415 batting average with 54 hits, 11 doubles, two homeruns and 16 runs batted in. Her hit total tied her own school record in the category, which she set last year. Her 2012 season batting average also ranks second in program history. She is a repeat first-team All-NEWMAC selection.
This season, Goldfarb closed out the year hitting in 13 of her last 14 games. She recorded 16 muli-hit games, including a string of six straight late in the season. Goldfarb, a utility player, saw time at designated player, short stop, pitcher and outfield for the Blue in 2012.
In the classroom, Goldfarb is a Geology major who spent the fall semester abroad in Australia at the University of Sydney where she won gold with their softball team at the Uni Games. Goldfarb is also a two-time NEWMAC All-Academic team honoree.
Goldfarb earns her first Academic All-District selection, representing District I, which is comprised of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. She now advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
The Wellesley College softball team finished the 2012 season with a 19-19-1 record. The Blue were seeded third in the NEWMAC Tournament, defeating Wheaton College, but falling to three-time defending Champion Coast Guard, to close out the year.
