WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Nine Wellesley College fencers will represent the Blue on Sunday, March 11, at the 2018 NCAA Northeast Regional at Brandeis University's Gosman Athletic Center. Competition in women's sabre and epee will begin at 8:30 AM, with women's foil to follow at 9:30 AM.

The Blue will send three fencers in each weapon to Sunday's regional. Senior Madeleine Barowsky (Framingham, Mass.), junior Meg Harney (Wilmette, Ill.), and first year Lauren Park (Wayne, N.J.) will participate in sabre. Senior Hannah Schmidt (Oshkosh, Wis.), and first years Julia Calventus-Coveney (Barcelona, Spain) and Corinne Wilklow (Fairfield, Conn.) will compete in epee. Senior Taylor Hood (Lexington, Ky.), sophomore Brie Maurer (Fredericksburg, Va.), and first year Lucille Tsao (Succasunna, N.J.) will all represent the Blue in foil.

Wellesley's nine regional qualifiers are the most for the program since the Blue also qualified nine fencers for the 2014 NCAA Northeast Regional.  A pair of Wellesley fencers will be competing at regionals for the fourth time in their careers. After posting a 47-34 overall record in team competition in 2017-18, Barowsky will be looking to build on a 34th place finish in sabre at the 2017 NCAA Regional. Hood returns for a fourth time in foil after finishing 19th in 2015, 26th in 2016, and 21st in 2017. Hood finished the 2017-18 season with a mark of 40-24 in team competitions.

Harney returns for the third time in her career after finishing seventh among Division III fencers and 24th overall in sabre in 2017. Harney was 54-24 overall in 2017-18. Maurer finished one spot behind Hood in 2017, taking 22nd in foil, and will be looking to build on a strong 2017-18 season that included a 52-17 record in team matches.

Schmidt will make her first regional appearance in her final season in Blue after posting a 21-60 record during the 2017-18 season. She will join Park, Calventus-Coveney, Wilklow, and Tsao, who will all be competing at an NCAA regional for the first time in their respective careers.
