POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Wellesley College golf team completed day one of two at the Vassar Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The event kicked off the spring season for the Blue, who sit in ninth place overall.
After day one of play, Amherst College shot a 335 at the par 70, 5,805-yard Dutchess Golf and Country Club to lead the 11-team pack on Saturday. Middlebury's Flora Weeks leads the individual standings with a score of 78.
Middlebury shot a 341 for second place, followed by Ithaca in third (342), Williams in fourth (351), St. Lawrence in fifth (358), NYU (360), host Vassar (362), Mount Holyoke (383), Wellesley (409), William Smith (416), and Nazareth (457).
Wellesley was led by newcomer to the team, first-year Galen Haas who shot a round one score of 98, tying for 37th place. First-year Alexandria Lee and sophomore Lindsey Shephardson each recorded scores of 101, placing them 41st after one day of competition.
Junior Young Hsu and first-year Pim Chirathivat, also a newcomer, rounded out the day one action for the Blue. Hsu shot a 109 to sit in 53rd place, while Chirathivat carded a 119 to stand in 59th.
Action at the Vassar Invitational continues tomorrow morning at 10:00am.
