Blue Softball/Lacrosse Qualify for NEWMAC Tournament
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College lacrosse and softball teams have qualified to compete in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament.
The Wellesley lacrosse team earned a #4 seed and will host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday against #5 Smith.
In their first meeting this season, Wellesley held Smith to just four goals in each half, cruising to a 21-8 victory over the Pioneers. Brit Mscisz recorded five goals and an assist with Meredith Roy adding two goals and three assists. In goal, Tya Logan got the win for Wellesley, making 10 saves in 38 minutes of play, while Tori Hysko came on in relief, making two saves in 22 minutes of action.
The Blue softball team earned the #3 seed and will travel to Babson College on Tuesday for the first round of the tournament. Wellesley will battle #6 Coast Guard, the two-time defending NEWMAC Tournament Champion. The winner will meet #2 Babson after game one.
Last time they met, the Blue swept the Bears in a doubleheader, backed by stellar pitching performances from sophomore Lindsay Johnson and junior Sarah Schwartzmeyer. The Blue took game one, 3-2 in nine innings, as Abby Casey hit a sacrifice fly for the game-winner. Johnson allowed just one earned run in nine innings with seven strikeouts. In game two, Schwartzmeyer allowed just one run while striking out eight, while Maria LaBouyer drove in two runs in the 5-1 win.
