Mulrenan, Sharkin Named To NEWMAC Lacrosse All-Conference Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2016 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference team and award winners on Tuesday afternoon and Wellesley College sophomore Jenna Mulrenan (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and junior Nikki Sharkin (Summit, N.J.) have each been named to the All-Conference second team. 

The NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 13, Jenna Mulrenan was second on the Blue with 47 ground balls in 17 games during the 2016 season. The All-Conference honor is the first of her career, following a season that saw the Wellesley defender collect 12 draw controls, and cause 20 turnovers, while helping the Blue post a 10.40 goals against average as a team. Mulrenan's top game of the season came on March 24 at Colorado College, when she scooped up a season-high eight ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Nikki Sharkin scored 40 goals in 15 games during the 2016 season, adding five assists to finish with a team-high 45 points on the season. She earns NEWMAC All-Conference second team recognition for the second year in a row after posting the second 40-goal season of her career. The NEWMAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 24, Sharkin led the Blue with 48 ground balls, 54 draw controls and 29 caused turnovers. She was also in the top-ten overall in the NEWMAC in goals, ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers.

Wellesley lacrosse finished the 2016 season with a 9-8 overall record, going 4-4 in NEWMAC regular season play and advancing to the postseason tournament. For a complete list of NEWMAC award winners, see below. To view the release on the NEWMAC website, click here.
