WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 7 Tufts University swept past No. 25 Wellesley College tennis, earning a 9-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. The Jumbos even their record at 1-1 on the season, while Wellesley is 3-4 overall after dropping a pair of top-25 match-ups this weekend.

Tufts opened the match with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 Doubles, as seniors Lauren Louks (Malibu, Calif.) and Zoe Miller (Agoura Hills, Calif.) downed Wellesley first year Michelle Buyer (Wilmette, Ill.) and junior Sojin Ki (Irvine, Calif.). The Jumbos completed the doubles sweeps with matching 8-4 wins at No. 2 and No. 1.

Tufts closed out the match by sweeping the singles matches, but not before the Blue made things difficult at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6. Louks struggles to shake Wellesley's Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) at No. 2, winning the opening set 6-3 before holding off the Blue sophomore, 6-4, to win the match in two.

At No. 3, Tufts junior Mina Karamercan (Istanbul, Turkey) needed all three sets to down Wellesley first year Lizzy Kong (Mason, Ohio) after Kong and Karamercan split the opening sets. Kong took the opener 6-2 but Karamercan rallied for a 6-0 sweep in set two to tie the match. Kong rebounded to start the third set, as she built a 4-1 lead, but Karamercan rallied again, coming all the way back to take the match with a 6-4 set three win.

Tufts sophomore Afua Ofori-Darko (Midland, Mich.) jumped to a one set lead over Wellesley sophomore Korina Hernandez (Tampa, Fla) with a 6-4 win in the opening set at No. 6, but it would take a second set tiebreak to prevent a third game, as the two battled back and forth again. In the end, Ofori-Darko nabbed the victory with a 7-5 win in the breaker.

Wellesley will open New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play next Saturday, March 17, with a 12:00 match at Smith. The Blue defeated the Pioneers, 5-0, in the first meeting of the season between the two sides at last month's Seven Sisters Championship. Tufts will head to California to take on Whitman in their next match on Sunday, March 18, at 3:00 PM Eastern.
