CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Led by All-Region performers Randelle Boots and Camille Basurto, the Wellesley College track and field team recorded a 16th place finish out of 37 competing teams at the 2012 New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event was held at MIT's Steinbrenner Track on Friday and Saturday.
Boots and Basurto, both juniors, each earned All-Region honors with podium finishes in their respective events. Boots placed second overall in the 1,500-meter run, recording a time of 4:32.25. Basurto finished fourth overall in the 10,000-meter event, finishing in 36:52.66. Her time was over a minute faster than her previous personal best and school record time of 38:14.40.
Wellesley also competed in three relay events, the 4 x 800-meter, the 4 x 400-meter and the 4 x 100 meter. In the 800, the team of first-years Chloe Emerson and Alexandra Dunn and sophomores Sarah Roundy and Jane Lodwick took 11th place in 9:55.40. In the 400, sophomore Sheena Dupuy teamed with first-years Taylor Bickford, Nicole Chui and Kathleen Hanlon to take fourth in their section, 10th overall, in 4:33.41.
Wrapping up the competition, the 4 x 100m-relay team of first-year Sarah Chen, sophomore Zoe Sobel, Dupuy and Hanlon placed fifth in their section, 21st overall, in 53.16.
Wellesley track and field will next compete at the New England Intercollegiate Championship, held next week at MIT. The meet features Division I, II and III institutions from all over New England.
