WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Dorothy Webb, Wellesley College Head Volleyball Coach and PERA Professor of the Practice, authored a piece that was featured in the Summer Issue of the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Coaching Volleyball Magazine.
Webb's article Advanced Mental Strategies: Methods Employed by Great Athletes During Competition, builds on her presentation at last year's AVCA Convention in Kansas City, Mo., and discusses the importance of athletes "psychological engagement" in volleyball and other motor skill sports, asking how these skills can be both harnessed and taught to players.
"Many coaches ask how/if we can train these mental skills. Although I do believe that some people possess many of these skills innately," says Webb. "I also belive that we can create opportunites in our gym for teaching and learning them." Click here to read the full article from Coaching Volleyball magazine here (pdf).
Webb, who is now just five wins shy of 600 in her career, will lead Wellesley (6-0) into their second New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match of the season this Saturday at 1:00 PM at Mount Holyoke.
