CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Wellesley College
squash team dropped three matches on day one of the Harvard Round
Robin held at both Harvard University and MIT. The Blue fell to
three strong NESCAC teams in Connecticut College, Colby College and
Bowdoin College. On Sunday, Wellesley fell to a tough squad
from Wesleyan.
Against Conn., Wellesley dropped a close 6-3 match. Wellesley
picked up wins from first-year Lindsay
Rico(Norwalk, CA) in the number six position and
seniors Lauren Dow (Bethelem, PA)
and Rachel Amrhein(Kendall Park, NJ) at eight
and nine.
Later in the day, the Blue fell to Colby, 9-0, with Wellesley's
best chance coming in the number two position where
senior Ashley Stevens (East Harwich, MA)
took a game from her opponent, but eventually fell in four.
Wrapping up the day's action, the Blue lost to Bowdoin, 9-0. In
the first position, senior Sarah
Odell(Chester Springs, PA) dropped a heartbreaker in five
sets. Wellesley did make a strong showing in the exhibition
matches, as senior Jess Whitely (Yeadon,
MA) won both of her matches.
On Sunday, Wellesley fell 9-0 to Wesleyan. The Blue got
strong matches in the top two spots with number one Odell taking
her match to five games, while at number two, Stevens fell in
four.
Wellesley returns to action on December 3rd, hosting a match at
Dana Hall against Tufts University at 7:00pm.
