The Blue posted 18 top-three finishes en route to a 206-93
victory over Babson. Wellesley also dropped a narrow 166-129
decision to Coast Guard.
Wellesley was led by senior Hilary Gram
(Hopkinton, MA) and first-years Virginia Hung
(Plainsboro, NJ) and Kathryn Goffin (Falmouth,
ME), who all notched individual wins at the event. Gram won the
200-fly in a time of 2:21.08, while taking second in the 200-breast
(2:40.01) and third in the 200 IM (2:24.64). Hung took first place
in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.48, while also finishing second
in the 100-fly (1:01.24). Goffin was a standout at the diving end
of the pool, winning her first-career event with a score of 195 on
the 1-meter. She also took third on the 3-meter with a
158.90.
Junior Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA), sophomore
Stephanie Welch (Dedham, MA), and first-year
Katherine Foley (Orono, ME) were also strong for
the Blue, all posting top-three performances in multiple
events. Welch notched two runner-up finishes on the night,
touching second in the 100-back (1:07.23) and the 200-back
(2:22.66). Dutton took third in both the 200-free (2:03.58)
and the 500-free (5:29.84), while Foley placed third in both the
100-back (1:07.30) and the 200-back (2:23.97).
Ffth-year Savanna Johnson (Bloomington, IL) missed
a win in the 50-free by just .26 seconds, taking second place in
the sprint with a time of 25.74. Rounding out the individual
action for the Blue, sophomore Melanie Kaplan (La
Jolla, CA) shaved nearly two seconds off of her career-best,
finishing third in the 1000-free (11:32.62), while first-year
Carolyn Jackson (Leesburg, VA) took third place in
the 100-breast (1:13.56).
Wellesley also fared well in both relay events, posting first
and second-place finishes. The Blue team of Dutton, Johnson,
sophomore Whitney Smith (Detroit, MI) and senior
Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT) touched first in the
200-medley (1:57.70), while in the 200-free, Foley, Jackson, Hung
and Johnson came in second (1:57.70).
The Blue return to the pool on Saturday hosting a 1:00pm dual
meet against Smith College.
