CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team evened its overall record to 4-4, dropping four matches this weekend at MIT. Despite playing without the #5 player on the ladder, the Blue hung tough against four teams all ranked in the top-24 of the latest College Squash Association rankings.
On Saturday, Wellesley dropped a 9-0 match to #12 Bates and fell 6-3 to #24 Connecticut College. Against Conn., the Blue picked up wins from Rosemary O'Connor, Emma Haley and Emaline Surgenor (pictured). O'Connor was an 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 winner over Laura Abrams at number one, while Haley defeated Jillian Sandler 11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4, at number two. Normally playing in the sixth spot for Wellesley, Surgenor recorded a win in the five spot, defeating Sarah Robertson 7-11, 11-7, 11-1, 12-10.
In Sunday's matches, the Blue dropped a 9-0 decision to #17 Wesleyan and fell 8-1 to #19, Colby. Wellesley's win against Colby came in the sixth spot where Margot Sulmont won a five-game match over Coco Cowan with scores of 11-6, 11-9, 11-13, 6-11 and 11-3.
Wellesley is idle until Thursday, December 2nd when the Blue host Tufts University at Dana Hall in a 7:00pm match.
