The final day of the NEWMAC Championships began with another
record-setting performance from Coast Guard's Kimberly
Shadwick (Campbell Hall, NY). After setting NEWMAC records
and surpassing the NCAA "A" standard in both the 500 free and the
200 free, Shadwick accomplished the same feat today by taking the
1650 free in a record time of 17:13.07.
In the 200 backstroke, Springfield's Megan
Cooney (Hummelstown, PA) edged out Clark's Dana
Akerfeld (Bronxville, NY) for the title in an NCAA "B" cut
time of 2:08.32. Minutes later, in the 100 free, MIT's
Amy Jacobi (Cranbury, NJ) out-touched Coast
Guard's Heidi Gayman (Kensington, CA) to win the
closest race of the weekend, 53:02 to 53:03.
Wheaton's Nicole Zais (Sudbury, MA) captured
her second title of the meet, taking the 200 breast in a "B" cut
time of 2:23.88. And MIT's Anna Kokensparger
(Omaha, NE) continued to re-write the NEWMAC record book, surging
to another conference record and "A" standard time with a 2:04.10
win in the 200 fly.
In diving, Clark's Eileen Garcia (New York, NY)
followed up her 1-meter title by taking the 3-meter event with a
personal best of 511.35.
MIT captured the final event of the evening as Sydney
Giblin (Williamsburg, VA) and Elina Hu
(Oshkosh, WI) teamed with Jacobi and Kokensparger to take the 400
Free Relay in a NEWMAC record time of 3:30.56
