Wellesley notched eight top-four finishes at the event,
highlighted by strong performances from first-years Carolyn
Jackson (Leesburg, VA), Kathryn Goffin
(Falmouth, ME) and Virginia Hung (Plainsboro, NJ),
as well as fifth-year Savanna Johnson
(Bloomington, IL).
Jackson finished second in the 100-breast in a time of 1:10.88
and fourth in the 50-breast in 32.56. Goffin took second on
the 3-Meter board with a score of 170.78, and third on the 1-meter
with a 152.25. Hung finished third in the 50-fly in 28.24,
while Johnson took third in both the 50-breast (32.21) and the
50-free (25.42).
Wellesley also notched a third-place finish in the 200-freestyle
relay. Johnson and Hung teamed up with junior Dana
Dutton (Anacortes, WA) and sophomore Whitney
Smith (Detroit, MI) to turn in a time of 1:44.71.
The Blue also got strong individuals swims from Dutton, senior
Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT), sophomore
Olivia Hulme (Alma, MI) and first-year
Karina Chung (Lexington, MA). Dutton took fifth
overall in the 50-free in 25.71 while Hulme places fifth in the
100-fly (1:04.92). Mitten notched fifth-place finishes in the
500-free (5:37.05), as well as the 1,000-free (11:30.54), while
Chung took fifth in the 100-free (57.79).
Before the meet, Wellesley honored the eight members of the
class of 2010. The Blue honored Laurie
Adamson (Silver Spring, MD), Laura Foley
(Holden, MA), Abigail Friedman (Bristow, VA),
Hilary Gram (Hopkinton, MA), Alex
Stark (Moorestown, NJ), Laura Weir
(Narbeth, PA), Emilie Mitten and Savanna Johnson.
Next up for Wellesley, the Blue play host to the 2010 NEWMAC
Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. The event runs from
February 19-21.
