SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team went 0-4 at the 2011 Pioneer Valley Squash Invitational. The Blue dropped a tough 5-4 contest to Smith and then fell to St. Lawrence, 7-2 on day one. Day two saw the Blue drop identical 9-0 contests to Columbia and Amherst.
Against Smith, Wellesley saw wins at #1, #2, #8 and #9. Rosemary O'Connor was a 9-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-7 winner at one, while Emma Haley won 12-10, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9 at two.
In the eighth spot, Haley Vasquez was a 11-4, 11-3, 5-11, 11-7 winner, while Charlene Lee won 14-12, 11-7, 11-8 at nine. The Blue also won the exhibition match at number 10, as Stephanie Lee was a 11-2, 13-11, 10-12, 5-11, 11-5 winner.
In the match against St. Lawrence, the Blue picked up wins from O'Connor and Margo Sulmont. O'Connor continued her hot streak with an easy 11-5, 11-2, 11-0 win at one, while Sulmont won 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7 in the fourth position.
Wellesley is back in action on Thursday at the Belmont School against Tufts at 7:45pm.
