CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Competing in their first meet of the spring, the Wellesley College track team had a strong showing at the MIT Invitational. The Blue notched three first place finishes, while also setting two school records at the event.
Leading the way for Wellesley were Leah Clement, Camille Basurto and the 4x200m relay team of Judine St. Gerard, Lena Cardoso, Sheena Dupuy and Clement.
Clement won the 600 meter event, qualifying for the New England Division III and ECAC Championships in the process. Her time of 1:37.93 topped the program record of 1:40.58 (Randelle Boots, 2/6/10), and is the second fastest time in the region this season.
Basurto also notched an individual win, taking first in the 3,000 meters in 10:50.48. She combined that with a fifth-place finish in the 800 meter (2:33.90).
In the 4x200m relay, Gerard (30.58), Cardoso (29.66), Dupuy (31.96) and Clement (28.69) compiled an overall time of 2:00.89, taking top honors in the program's first entry into the event.
Also recording top-ten finishes for Wellesley, Adiba Manning took second place in the 400 meter run (64.52), with Cardoso finishing seventh (66.15). Margaret Wehner took fourth in the 1,000 meters in 3:13.84, while Evelyn Haro took fifth in the 800-meter in 2:34.56.
Rounding out the days action, the 4x400m relay team of Haro (69.66), Skye Roberts (70.14), Doris Berman (73.41) and Wehner (67.25) took fifth overall in a time of 4:40.53.
Wellesley is back in action on Saturday at Smith's Tartan Invitational at 10:00am.
