WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College swimming and diving team posted two victories in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon at Chandler Pool. The Blue move to 2-0 on the season, defeating Clark University, 179-120, and Roger Williams University, 202-95.
The Blue were paced by sophomore
Keelin Nave who picked up four event wins, taking first in three individual events, while also anchoring a winning relay. She won the 200-free in 1:58.13, took first in the 200-fly in 2:11.95 and was the 100-fly winner in 59.76. In the 400-free relay, Nave anchored the team of first-years
Monica Gates and
Grace Bachman and sophomore
Megan Lambert, as they touched first in a time of 3:48.18.

Virginia Hung took first place in the 200-medley relay. The team touched first in a time of 1:56.31.
Also for Wellesley, first-years Veronica Lin, Kendra Waters and Gates each recorded individual swimming victories, marking their first collegiate wins. Lin took home two wins, touching first in the 100-back in 1:03.21 and in the 200 IM in 2:21.62. She also posted a 2:16.10 to take second in the 200-back. Waters won the 100-breast in 1:09.98 and the 200-breast in 2:35.73, while also being a part of two winning relay teams. Gates was a winner in the 100-free in a time of 56.55, while also taking second overall in the 50-free in 26.34.
Other top swimmers for the Blue included Chen, sophomore
Anne Hamilton, and Lambert and Hung. Chen notched three top-three finishes, taking second in the 100-back (1:04.06), third in the 200-back (2:17.98) and third in the 500-free (5:42.55). Hamilton recorded second place finishes in the 200-free (2:03.16) and the 500-free (5:36.86), while Lambert and Hung each notched third place finishes. Lambert touched third in the 50-free (26.44), while Hung was third in both the 200-IM (2:28.19) and the 200-fly (2:23.31).
Wrapping up the swimming highlights for Wellesley, seniors
Melanie Kaplan and
Stephanie Welch both had strong performances. Kaplan took second in the 1000-free in a time of 11:27.09 and took fourth in the 500-free in 5:42.75. Welch took second in the 500-free in 5:36.86, and was third in the 1000-free in a lifetime best time of 11:31.07.
On the diving side, the Blue were led by sophomore
Hayley Goydan, who took first on the 1-meter board and second on the 3-meter board. Her score of 245.99 in the 1-meter event topped Clark All-American performer Eileen Garcia. In the 3-meter event, she finished second to Garcia, with a score of 243.90. Other top finishers for Wellesley included first-year
Gabby Cooper-Vespa who took fourth on the 1-meter (186.14) and fifth on the 3-meter (179.90), while junior
Chelsea-Ann Patry took sixth on the 1-meter (167.55) while sophomore
Kathryn Goffin took sixth on the 3-meter (168.00).
Wellesley continues their home slate with a 7:00pm dual meet against MIT on Wednesday afternoon at Chandler Pool.
