BOSTON, Mass.- The Wellesley College track team took 16th out of 34 scoring teams with a total of 14 points at the New England Intercollegiate Track & Field Championships at Boston University this weekend. The meet is a combined championship for Division I, II, and III colleges and universities from the six New England states. The Blue broke three Wellesley records, while notching four top three finishes in three events.
In the mile, Cristina Lucas took first in her heat with her new indoor personal best time of 5:07.67. Her performance qualified her for the ECAC Division III Championship. Randelle Boots placed second in her heat, finishing in 4:49.22. Her time is the best Division III performance of the indoor track season and puts her in seventh place on the Division III all-time list. Boots' time is also a new Wellesley record, breaking the record that she previously held by nearly four seconds. Lucas and Boots finished 13th and second, respectively, out of 27 finishers in the event.
Leah Clement also performed well for the Blue, taking third place in the 800 meter final. She finished in 2:10.18, breaking the old Wellesley record by three seconds. Her time is the second best Division III performance for the indoor track season and puts her in 11th place on the Division III all-time list.
Another Wellesley record was broken by the 4X400 meter relay team. Margaret Wehner (63.47), Lucas (64.00), Adiba Manning (60.30), and Clement (58.55) combined to finish in 4:06.02, breaking the previous record by more than five seconds. They placed second in their heat, and 17th overall out of 21 relay teams. Their performance qualifies them for the ECAC Division III Championships.
The Blue will be in action again next weekend
