DELAWARE, Ohio -- Wellesley College junior Leah Clement wrapped up a brilliant track season on Friday evening at the 2011 NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Clement competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing 22nd with a time of 11:44.66.
Today's race capped a fantastic track season for the East Lyme, Conn. native, as 2011 saw Clement notch an All-America award, two NCAA Championships appearances, a New England Championship record and two NEWMAC titles.
At the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Clement placed sixth overall in the 800m to earn her first career All-America nod. At the New England Indoor Championships, she won the 600 and the 1000 meters, while setting a New England record in the 600. Clement also earned All-New England honors in the outdoor season, taking second in the steeplechase.
At the NEWMAC Track Championships, Clement led the Blue to a sixth place team finish in their first ever appearance at the event. She collected two titles, winning the steeplechase as well as the 800m run.
Clement notched NCAA Outdoor qualifying times in both the 800m and the 3,000m steeplechase, choosing to run the steeplechase at the national level for the first time in her career.
Up next for the Blue, Randelle Boots will compete in the finals of the 1,500m run tomorrow at 2:00pm.
The 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships are hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. The competition runs through Saturday, May 28th.
