ALLSTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College track and field team closed out the fall semester of competition at the 2012 Havard Open Indoor meet. Highlighting the event, sophomore Alexandra Dunn and first-year Sharon Ng qualified for the New England Division III Championships.
Dunn and Ng both posted top-five finishes in their section of the 800m race. Dunn recorded a personal bed tie of 2:23.72, to take 12th overall, while Ng ran a 2:28.19 to place 15th. Rounding out the Wellesley competitors in the event, first-year Victoria Lee also had a solid race, posting a personal best of 2:29.01 to finish 16th in the 41-competitor field.
Five other Wellesley runners hit personal bests at the meet, with three coming in the 200m race and two happening in the mile run. In the 200m, first-years Mia Guild and Emma Kissane, and junior Sheena Dupuy all ran career best times, finishing 4-5-6 in their heat of the race. Guild (28.52) finished 51st overall, Kissane (28.79) ended in 55th, and Dupuy (29.07) placed 64th out of 96 runners. In the mile, sophomore Taylor Bickford finished second in her heat, while first-year Alessandra Gavin placed fifth in the heat. Bickford recorded a 5:29.66 to take 12th overall, while Gavin ran a 5:31.47 to finish 15th in the 53-runner field.
Rounding out the track events, junior Chloe Emerson (1:53.79) placed fifth in her heat of the 600m race, while Dupuy (7.7), Kissane (7.7) and junior Zoe Sobel (8.1) all competed in the 55m dash.
In the field events, Blue first-year Courtney Lang placed ninth overall in the triple jump and 14th in the long jump. She recorded a leap of 10.18m (33' 4 3/4") in the triple, while besting her own Wellesley record in the long jump, with a 4.93m (16' 2 1/4") effort. Wrapping up the meet for the Blue, Dupuy (4.13m/13' 6 3/4") finished 33rd in the long jump, while Sobel (2.74m./9' 0") finished 37th.
Wellesley track and field will return to action on January 19th, competing at the Smith Invitational.
