Valentine Invite Videos: Mile | 3000m | 5000m
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College track and field team competed at two events this weekend, racing at Boston University's Valentine Invitational on Friday night, and competing at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday.
On Friday, senior Molly Shanley and junior Camille Basurto both qualified for the New England Div. III, New England Intercollegiate and ECAC Div. III Championships in their respective races. Shanley recorded a personal best time of 10:07.72 in the 3,000-meter race, with her time ranking second on the all-time program list. Basurto also hit a personal best, finishing the 5,000-meter race in 18:06.33.
Sophomore Jane Lodwick also ran a solid race at BU, taking fifth in her section of the mile.
On Saturday at Tufts, Wellesley runners racked up seven top-five performances, competing in seven events.
In the 3,000-meter race, junior Ada Smith recorded a win in her first ever race at the distance. She finished in 10:58.76, outpacing first-year Vanessa Wilkins' second place time of 11:00.49. First-year Nicole Chui took fourth in the event in 11:05.19, as both Chui and Wilkins recorded personal best times.
Sophomore Doris Berman and first-year Alexandra Dunn both earned top-five finishes in the 5,000-meter event. Berman recorded a personal best time of 20:10.56 to finish in third place, while Dunn finished fifth in her first race at the distance.
Rounding out the distance events, senior Cailey Stevens finished fourth in the 1,000 in 3:19.29, while sophomore Skye Roberts and first-year Taylor Bickford finished sixth and eighth in the mile.
Sophomore Sheena Dupuy and first-year Kathleen Hanlon each competed in two events for the Blue. In heat two of the 60-meter dash, Dupuy finished fourth in 8.81, while Hanlon finished fifth in 8.83, a personal best time. In the 200-meter event, Dupuy recorded a personal best time of 29.70 finishing fourth in her heat, while Hanlon finish third in her heat in 29.42.
Closing out the meet, Wellesley ran unopposed in the 4 x 400 meter relay, where Stevens, Dupuy, Chui and Hanlon combined for a time of 4:41.35.
Up next for the team, qualified athletes will compete at the at New England Division III Championships on Saturday at Smith College.
