Boots, Shanley Earn All-New England Honors at Open Meet

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wellesley College track and field team sent three student-athletes to the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted this weekend by Boston University.

Junior Randelle Boots and senior Molly Shanley each earned All-New England honors to lead Wellesley to 25th place overall, against competition from Divisions I, II and III.

Competing in her first race of 2012, Boots' debut was spectacular, as the junior ran a 4:55.02 in the mile, finishing as the top Division III performer. Her time provisionally qualifies her for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships, improving on her time of 5:02, achieved in December.

Also competing at the event for the Blue, junior Ada Smith placed seventh in her setion of the 5,000m, recording a time of 18:36.11.

Up next, qualified Wellesley runners will compete March 2nd and 3rd at the 2012 ECAC Championships at the New Balance Armory in New York, NY.
