CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Wellesley College junior Randelle Boots opened strong at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earning a spot in the finals of the 1,500-meter event.

Boots took second in her opening heat, earning an automatic spot into the finals. She ran a time of 4:34.26, just .04 second off the leader. The top four finishers in each of the two heats gained an automatic entry into the finals, with the next four best times also qualifying.
