Blue Track and Field Opens 2013 Portion of Season

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College track and field team kicked off the 2013 portion of their season sending seven athletes to Smith College's Benyon Invitational on Saturday.

Despite only competing in eight of the 21 events, the Blue managed an eighth place finish, recording 36 total team points.

Highlighting the day for Wellesley, first-year Courtney Lang won the triple jump, with a leap of 10.78m (35' 4.5"). Her jump broke her own school record in the event.

Wellesley's 4 x 200m relay team also set a new Wellesley school record and finished second in the process. Sheena Dupuy, Eden Bass, Lang and Emma Kissane combined to run a 1:56.80.

Also competing in the 500m run, Bass took second overall with a time of 1:28.06. In the 800m, Sharon Ng, recorded a personal best time of 2:27.83 to place fourth overall.

Wrapping up the running events, Alessandra Gavin (3:16.22) took seventh in the 1000m, Lang (28.25) and Dupuy (30.22) took 10th and 26th place in the 200m, and Dupuy (8.79) and Zoe Sobel  (9.23) placed 14th and 20th in the 60m dash.

In the remaining field events, Wellesley was paced by a sixth place finish by Lang in the long jump (4.60 m./15' 1.25"), while Sobel placed ninth in the triple jump.

Wellesley track and field next competes at Boston University's Terrier Invitational on Saturday, January 25th.
