WELLESLEY, Mass. – Host Wellesley College won the 2013 Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championship on Sunday, nabbing the team title for the 16th-consecutive year. The Blue recorded a two-day total of 1308 points, outdistancing runner-up Mount Holyoke College, who tallied a total of 754. In third place, Vassar College finished with 625 points, while Smith College (555 pts.), and Bryn Mawr College (362 pts.) rounded out the field.
After taking top honors in eight of yesterday's 13 events, Wellesley used considerable depth to take the title. The Blue rattled off four more wins in day two action, while Mount Holyoke picked up two event wins and Bryn Mawr added one.
Sunday saw two more Seven Sisters records fall, while two more athletes hit NCAA qualifying standards. All-in-all, nine meet records were broken this weekend, with five NCAA standards hit.
Wellesley's Gabriela Kovacikova, Dorothy Ren and Hayley Goydan each recorded individual victories to lead the Blue on day two. Kovacikova earned All-Seven Sisters honors by winning the 200-back in 2:13.49, while Ren was the 200-fly winner in 2:12.51.
Goydan came out on top of another fantastic diving competition, winning the three-meter board with a score of 448.55. Smith's Jenika Parson finished second on the board with a 444.75, with both totals surpassing NCAA standards.
In the day's only relay, Wellesley took the title, as Ren, Ieva Galinyte, Emily Sotomayor and Monica Gates teamed up to win the 400-free relay with a 3:43.18.
Mount Holyoke captured two titles on the afternoon, totaling five overall. Rookie sensation Cathleen Pruden continued her meet with another Seven Sisters record, recording a time of 18:00.19 in the 1,650-free. Teammate Maya Lazarovich also broke a Seven Sisters record, recording a time of 2:29.40 to win the 200-breast.
Rounding out the event winners on day two, Bryn Mawr's Meredith Davis won her second event of the meet, taking All-Seven Sisters honors in the 100-free. She finished the race with a time of 55.30.
Overall, Wellesley's Ren led all athletes with seven total event wins, four individual victories and three as part of a relay team. Mount Holyoke's Pruden was a four-time winner, taking three individual honors and one relay title.
The Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championship has been contested since 1982.
