Seniors Shine But Wellesley Squash Falls to Mt. Holyoke

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Wellesley College squash team dropped a close 6-3 match to #20 Mount Holyoke on day two of the 2013 College Squash Association (CSA) national team championships.

Like the last time Wellesley and Mount Holyoke met, the Lyons dominated the top of the line-up, while the Blue played solid at the bottom. Mount Holyoke swept the one through five matches, winning the first three, by 3-0 sweeps.

Wellesley picked up its wins in the six, eight and nine spots, as each of the Blue's three seniors nabbed victories. At six, Margo Sulmont won 11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, at eight, Emaline Surgenor won 11-3, 11-8, 11-7, and at nine, Cara Kaufman won 8-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9.

At four and five, juniors Sara Del Balzo and Haley Vasquez each took their games to four, before dropping 3-1 matches.

Wellesley's Alexandra Spiliakos narrowly fell in her seventh flight match, coming up on the wrong end of a 11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-7 marathon. At 10, first-year Kate Loftus kept her match close, before falling, 11-9, 6-11, 11-3, 12-10.
