WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College track and field team had a strong weekend of competition at the 2013 New England Intercollegiate (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships at Boston University. The Blue competed in five different events against competition from Division I, II and III schools.

Highlighting the action for Wellesley, senior Cristina Lucas medaled in the 1,000m event, recording the third fastest time in Blue history. Heading into the competition, Lucas was seeded 25th out of 30 competitors, but she ran a 2:58.43 in the qualifying to earn a spot in Saturday's final. As the only non-Division I runner in the final, Lucas posted a 2:58.78 to earn a fourth place finish and All-New England Intercollegiate honors.

Wellesley senior Randelle Boots and sophomore Vanessa Wilkins also raced strong, recording personal best times in the 5,000m race. Boots was the top Division-III finisher, ranking ninth overall in 17:45.83, while Wilkins placed 13th in a time of 17:58.82. Both Boots and Wilkins earned spots on Wellesley's all-time 5,000m performance list, as Boots ranks second overall, and Wilkins occupies the sixth spot. 

Rounding out the individual events, Blue sophomore Alexandra Dunn ranked sixth in her heat of the 800m event, recording a time of 2:24.39.

Wrapping up the competition, two Wellesley relay teams had season-best performances at the meet. In the 4x400m relay, the Blue finished third in third section, recording a time of 4:12.83. First-years Sharon Ng and Emma Kissane ran season-best legs, and joined with senior Eden Bass and sophomore Kathleen Hanlon to complete the foursome.

In the 4x800m relay, first-year Alessandra Gavin and Dunn each recorded personal bests, combining with junior Jane Lodwick and first-year Victoria Lee to rank 11th with a time of 9:45.00.

Qualified Wellesley athletes will next head to the 2013 ECAC Championships on March 1st and 2nd at the New Balance Armory in New York City.
