AMHERST, Mass. -- Five qualifying times and two top-10 finishes highlighted the action for the Wellesley College track and field team at the Minuteman Track and Field Invitational hosted by UMass-Amherst. The Blue raced against competition from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III at the event.
Leading the way for Wellesley, Taylor Bickford and senior Cristina Lucas, recorded top-10 finishes. Bickford ranked sixth overall in the steeplechase with a personal best and New England Division III qualifying time of 12:13.89. Lucas ranked seventh in the 1,500m race, hitting a personal best of 4:40.38. Her effort improves her seed time for the New England and ECAC Championships.
Sophomore Alexandra Dunn hit a qualifying time at the event, leading five Wellesley finishers in the 800m event. She ranked 22nd overall with a personal best time of 2:22.10, qualifying her for the New England Championships. Also racing well in the 800m, first-years Sharon Ng (2:23.76) and Victoria Lee (2:24.59), finished close behind Dunn, with Lee hitting a personal best.
Also hitting qualifying times for the Blue were senior Ada Smith and sophomore Kendra Waters. Smith finished 14th overall in the 5,000m, running the event for the first time outdoors. Her time of 18:14.21 hit a personal best and also qualified her for the New England and ECAC Championships. Waters ranked 18th overall in the 400m race, with her personal best effort of 60.49 improving her seed time for the New England Championships.
In the 4x100m relay event, Wellesley's team of first-year Caitlin Bailey, junior Sheena Dupuy, sophomore Kathleen Hanlon, and Waters, finished 12th overall, recording a time of 53.53.
Elsewhere at the event, Bailey ranked 21st overall (71.66) competing in the 400m hurdles, while Hanlon (200m), and first-year Mariana Breña (800m) recorded personal best times in their events.
Wellesley competes next weekend at two events, racing at Princeton University on Friday, and then competing in MIT's Spring Invitational on Saturday.
