WATERVILLE, Maine -- An All-Region performance from Wellesley's 4 x 800-meter relay team highlighted the action for the Blue competing at the 2013 New England Division III Outdoor Championships at Colby College on Saturday.
Running in the 4 x 800, first-years Alessandra Gavin, Victoria Lee, Carolyn Chelius, and sophomore Alexandra Dunn combined for a time of 9:43.77. The foursome finished eighth overall to earn All-New England honors, while also qualifying for the ECAC Championships.
Elsewhere, Wellesley recorded eight finishes in the top-20 at the event, which featured competition from schools all over New England.
The Blue had four runners competing in the 800m event, led by a 17th place finish from Lee. Her personal best time of 2:20.51 topped Wellesley's pack of runners that all finished within 2.5 seconds of each other. Following Lee, senior Cristina Lucas was 18th, while first-year Sharon Ng finished 20th and Dunn ranked 23rd.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Taylor Bickford finished 11th overall in a personal best time of 11:51.26. Her finish also improved on her ECAC Championship seed time. Sophomore Nicole Chui also qualified to compete in the event, ranking 22nd overall.
Rounding out the individual performances, were Lucas in the 1,500-meter race, sophomore Kendra Waters in the 400-meter event, and first-year Caitlin Bailey in the 400-meter hurdles. Lucas ranked 13th overall in the 1,500, Waters placed 18th in the 400, and Bailey finished 23rd in the 400 hurdles.
Wellesley's other relay entries finished 16th and 17th overall. The 4 x 400-meter relay was made up of Ng, senior Eden Bass, first-year Emma Kissane and sophomore Kathleen Hanlon. In the 4 x 100-meter relay, junior Sheena Dupuy, Kissane, Hanlon and Waters set a new school record of 51.71.
The Blue are back in action on May 10th, competing at Stonehill College in the New England Intercollegiate Championships.
