Blue Track and Field Caps Busy Weekend at BU, Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. — Wellesley College track & field closed out a busy two-day stretch on Saturday afternoon, competing at the annual Tufts Stampede after several members of the Blue opened the weekend on Friday at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic. Both events were non-scoring. 

On Friday at BU's Track and Tennis Center, the Blue recorded several strong times in a field comprised of student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III institutions. Senior Kendra Waters ran to the 23rd overall finish in the 500 meter dash, while sophomore Mary Keenan and senior Taylor Bickford both finished in the top-35 of the 5000 meter run. Keenan took 32nd with a time of 17:48.17, while Bickford wasn't far behind in 35th with a time of 17:53.73. 

In the 200 meter dash, sophomore Isabella Narvaez clocked in at 26.66 to finish 81st out of the 140 runners to complete the event. Also competing at BU, first year Abena Asare registered a distance of 4.50m in the long jump.

On Saturday at Tufts, the Blue delivered nine top-10 performances and four top-five finishes. Junior Caitlin Bailey got the day started for the Wellesley, taking sixth in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:47.04.

In the 800 meter run, first year Isabella King's time of 2:27.74 was good enough to earn her the eighth fastest time on the day. 

Sophomore Sonja Cwik was the next member of the Blue to grab a top-10 time, as she clocked in a 5:28.89 in the 1 mile run. The Blue continued to have a strong showing in the distance events, as sophomore Edie Sharon took fifth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:47.04. Junior Priyanka Fouda also had a top-five distance finish thanks to a time of 18:37.97 in the 5000 meter run. 

First years Priscilla Lee and Abena Asare combined to collect the Blue's remaining top-10 finishes on the afternoon. Lee registered a jump of 1.52 in the high jump to take fifth overall. She then scored 4.60m in the long jump to finish seventh. Asare scored 9.99 in the 60 meter hurdles to take sixth in the event before scoring 10.10m in earn fifth in the triple jump. 

Wellesley track & field will now look to next weekend and a trip to the Dartmouth College Classic in Hanover, N.H.
