Blue Swimming & Diving Opens MIT Winter Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Wellesley College swimming & diving opened the three-day MIT Invitational on Friday evening, competing in the finals of a pair of events to begin the weekend.  

The Blue raced to an eighth place finish in the 800 Free Relay, with Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.), Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.) and Karen Wang (Holmdel, N.J.) earning the Blue 32 points in the team standings with an 8th place time of 8:02.25. MIT won the event in 7:31.09. 

Wellesley also amassed 25 more points in 1 meter diving, with senior Maddie Stern (Phoenix, Ariz.) leading the Blue with a score of 223.60 to take seventh place. Sophomore Ingrid Henderson (Berkeley, Calif.) added a 14th place finish with a score of 165.05. First year Zubyn D'Costa (Princeton, N.J.) was nineteenth with a mark of 127.05. 

The MIT Winter Invitational continues tomorrow, Saturday, December 3, with preliminary competition at 10:30 AM. Finals Begin at 6:00 PM with events including: Women's 3-Meter Diving, the 200 Free Relay, 200 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 400 IM, 50 Free, and the 400 Medley Relay.
