Track & Field Competes at Gordon Kelly Invitational, BU Valentine Invitational

BOSTON/CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field capped the indoor regular season on Saturday, competing at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitational at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center, while the Blue's Distance Medley relay team closed out the weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center. 

At BU, the Blue team of senior Sharon Ng (Sunnyvale, Calif.), juniors Isabella Narvaez (Cali, Colombia) and Sonja Cwik (La Cañada, Calif.) and senior Priyanka Fouda (Wellesley, Mass.) took fifth in their heat with a time of 12:08.28. 

Across the river at MIT, the Blue took part in ten events, earning three top-ten times.

Two of the Blue's top-ten times came in the Mile, behind a runner-up and personal record performance from senior Carolyn Chelius (Haddonfield, N.J.) and a tenth place finish from senior Heather Smith (Detroit, Mich.). Chelius ran to a time of 5:30.94 while Smith finished in 5:48.68. First year Portia Krichman (San Diego, Calif.) also ran a time of 6:45.64 in the event. 

Wellesley also earned one of the top eight spots in the 5000m Run thanks to another senior, as Sara Vannah (Amherst, Mass.) finished in 19:46.53. Sophomore Clare Salerno finished the 5000m in 21:21.40. 

In the 200m Dash, first year Jenn Harris (Vestal, N.Y.) and sophomore Leilani Stacy (Collierville, Tenn.) registered times of 30.33 and 30.89, respectively. The duo also competed in the 60m Hurdles, with Harris registering a time of 10.93 and Stacy a time of 11.40.

In the 3000m run, first year Catherine Xie (Newton, Mass.) ran to a time of 11:53.34 and classmate Maeve Monahan (Beverly, Mass.) clocked in at 12:22.63.

First year Josephine Kim (Newport Coast, Calif.) took part in three field events, clearing 1.42m in the High Jump, while leaping to distances of 4.70m in the Long Jump and 9.86m in the Triple Jump. Junior Emma Scalisi (Waltham, Mass.) also competed in the Long Jump and Triple, registering a mark of 4.36m in the Long Jump and a leap of 9.95m in the Triple.

In throws, junior Susannah Perkins (Ottsville, Pa.) heaved the shot put 8.70m, while sophomore Caroline Hsu (Boca Raton, Fla.) registered a mark of 8.44m. In the Weight Throw, Helen Andersen (Madison, N.J.) tossed a distance of 10.65m.

Wellesley will now turn to the New England Division III Indoor Championships next Saturday, February 20. Qualified participants will head to Middlebury College to compete in the first championship meet of the season.
