No. 22 Wellesley Squash Falls to No. 25 Colby, No. 15 Bates

WATERVILLE/LEWISTON, Maine – No. 22 Wellesley College squash dropped a pair of matches on a Saturday trip to Maine, falling 9-0 to No. 25 Colby College at the Dunaway Courts in the morning and 8-1 to No. 15 Bates in an afternoon match at the Bates Squash Center. The Blue are now 4-6 on the season.

Colby 9, Wellesley 0

The Mules got back at the Blue following a 5-4 defeat at the hands of Wellesley during the opening weekend of the season. Colby took seven of the nine matches by 3-0 scores, including each of the top-three spots in the lineup.

Devin Mullaney defeated Meera Nayar (Chicago, Ill.) at No. 1, while Madiha Molani cruised past first year Eva Mullarkey (Locust Valley, N.Y.) at No. 2 and Julianna Sonog earned the win at No. 3 over Wellesley's Haley Connor (Boston, Mass.).

Victories from Olivia Silverman, Cricket di Galoma, Caroline Pelham, Ren Robinson, Lily Wain, and Elise O'Brien closed out the sweep for Colby. Wellesley junior Audrey Fok (Great Neck, N.Y.) did earn a win for the Blue in the No. 10 exhibition match, defeating Anna Gildea, 3-1 (11-13, 11-2, 11-8, 11-1). 

Bates 8, Wellesley 1

Bates won at the No. 1 through No. 8 positions to down the Blue. Wellesley avoided a sweep thanks to Elena Ubeda (Natick, Mass.), as the Blue first year rallied following a 6-11 loss in the first game to take the next three games, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4, over Kyla Rabb.

Fok earned her second win of the day in the No. 10 spot in the lineup, taking the exhibition match, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5, over Alyssa Rohan. However, the remainder of the contest belonged to the Bobcats.

First year Luca Polgar bested Nayar, 11-7, 11-2, 11-3, at No. 1, while sophomores Kristyna Alexova and Vicky Arjoon earned wins at No. 2 and 3, respectively. Alexova defeated Mullarkey 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-5) and Arjoon downed Connor 3-0 (11-6, 11-0, 11-3). Bates victories at positions No. 4 through No. 8 completed the 8-1 win.

Wellesley will look to snap a four-match skid on Wednesday, February 1, when they welcome Connecticut College to the Dana Hall School for a 7:00 PM contest.
