Wegner Leads Wellesley Swim & Dive to 178-107 Win at Merrimack

ANDOVER, Mass. -- Paced by three individual victories from sophomore Jessica Wegner (Taipei, Taiwan), Wellesley College swimming & diving closed out an undefeated dual meet season with a 178-107 victory over Merrimack College on Saturday at the Andover YMCA. 

Wellesley earned victories in 12 of the 16 events to win its seventh dual meet of the season, with Wegner taking first in two different strokes and the 200 IM. Wegner earned a time of 1:01.56 in the 100 Yard Backstroke, 1:00.20 in the 100 Fly, and captured the 200 IM in 2:15.78.

Wegner opened the meet by helping the Blue touch the wall first in the 200 Medley Relay. Wegner, seniors Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.) and Maggie Haley (Shady Side, Md.), and first year Shawyuan Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) combined for a time of 1:54.89 in Wellesley's first event win of the day.

Peterson, Haley and Hsu followed with Blue victories in three of the next six events. Peterson captured the 200 Free in 2:02.87, while Haley was first in the 200 Fly in 2:16.72 and Hsu claimed the 50 Free in 25.11. Peterson and Hsu also earned a relay victory to conclude the meet, teaming with junior Hannah May (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Marisa Papagelis (Westborough, Mass.) to win the 200 Free Relay in 1:44.10. 

Sophomore Emery Dutton (Wayland, Mass.) and first year Elizabeth Park (Dix Hills, N.Y.) rounded out the Blue swimming victories on Saturday. Dutton captured the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:43.85 and Park was the winner in the 500 Free in 5:30.94.  

In diving, held Friday at Wellesley, sophomore Emma Roberts (Boxford, Mass.) was first on both the 1-Meter (197.75) and 3-Meter (211.35) boards. First year Claire Moreland (San Francisco, Calif.) added scores of 165.37 in 1-Meter and 146.75 on the 3-Meter. 

Wellesley will now begin preparations for the 2020 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, February 20-23, at MIT's Zesiger Center Pool in Cambridge, Mass.
