Paradiso Leads Wellesley Track & Field at Tufts Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior Eva Paradiso (Burlington, Vt.) took fifth place in the mile to lead Wellesley College track & field at the Tufts University Cupid Challenge on Saturday afternoon at Gantcher Fieldhouse. Paradiso finished with a PR and a Division III New England Championship (DIII NE) qualifying time of 5:12.68.

Paradiso was one of four Blue student-athletes to register a DIII NE mark on Saturday. Classmate Elizabeth Wegman (East Sandwich, Mass.) qualified in the 1000m, taking 13th with a PR of 3:11.77. The Blue added two more DIII NE marks in the 3000m, where sophomore Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) finished first in their heat and seventh overall in the 3000m with a time of 10:36.49. Marks was just over three seconds ahead of classmate Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine ), who took eighth in 10:29.87. 

Wegman closed out the meet in the final leg of the 4x400, teaming with first years Kathryn Winkler (Bedford, Mass.), Dallis Kehoe (Norwell, Mass.), and Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.) for an eighth place time of 4:25.30. Richardson was the top Wellesley finisher in the 200m taking 26th in 28.32. Richardson was one spot ahead of Winkler time of 28.42. Kehoe was fifth in her heat and ninth overall in the 60m Hurdles. Kehoe's prelim time of 10.06 missed the finals by a tenth of a second. 

Senior Keiko Hilmo (Saint Paul, Minn.) added a 16th place time in the mile, finishing fourth in the second of two heats with a time of 5:30.72. First year Madeline Morocco (Mansfield, Mass.) was 37th in the 200m (29.72) but was the top Wellesley competitor in the 60m Dash, taking 29th in 8.67. Sophomore Arianna Sablad (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 31st (8.73) in the 60m and junior Aiyana Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was 36th (9.22).

Rounding out the performances on the track, sophomore Kaylee Hill (Hingham, Mass.) was 13th in the 5000m with a PR of 21:16.97 and first year Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) was 27th in the 3000m with a time of 11:28.52. 

Senior Crystalina Guo (Montgomery, N.J.) was 15th in the Shot (9.74m) and the weight throw (11.55m). First year Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) added a 19th place finish in the weight throw (10.79m). Senior Josephine Kim (Orange County, Calif.) cleared 1.46m to take 16th place in the High Jump and finished 14th in the Triple Jump with a mark of 9.61m on her third attempt. First year Ariel Traver (Palo Alto, Calif.) recorded a mark of 4.16m to finish in 24th in the Long Jump. Traver was also 16th in the Triple Jump, earning a mark of 9.48m on her second attempt. 

Wellesley continues the indoor season next Friday and Saturday, February 14-15, at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational and MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitational.
