WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley track & field team came away with seven first place finishes in the first ever outdoor track & field event hosted in Wellesley College history.
Aoife Fitzgerald picked up the first track win for the Blue after running a 1:01.63 in the 400 meter dash. Just behind was teammate Kathryn Winkler (Bedford, Mass.) who ran a 1:02.53 to earn second place.
First year Kiara Dozier (Honolulu, Hawaii) earned an impressive victory in the shot put, finishing in first place out of 14 participants. Dozier had a best toss of 9.45m beating out Kristen Barrett of Regis College at 8.88 meters.
Seniors Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) and Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) took first and second respectively in the 5k for the Blue. Marks clocked in at 17:58.92 and Bradbury was just .02 second behind at 17:58.94. Classmates Lily Herold (Athens, Ohio) and Kaylee Hill (Hingham, Mass.) placed fourth and fifth in the event.
Junior distance runner Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) was the lone runner in the 3000 meter steeplechase and finished in 12:09.81.
The Blue found success in the relay events, taking first in both the 4x100 and 4x400. The quartet of Winkler, Fitzgerald, Alejandra Castillo (Chapel Hill, N.C), and Dallis Kehoe (Norwell, Mass.) ran a 4:16.64 in the 4x400. In the 4x100, Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.), Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas), and Arianna Sablad (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed first in 51.74 seconds.
The Blue complied multiple top-10 finishers in the 100 meter dash. Richardson placed second overall with an impressive time of 13.71 seconds. In third was sophomore Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.) at 13.89 and one spot behind was Quaye at 13.98. Quaye also placed first in the second section of the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.29.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Kehoe placed second overall with a finals time of 1:09.42. Also earning a second place finish was first year Erin Dickinson (Omaha, Neb.) in the long jump with a best leap of 4.73m.
Wellesley will compete at the Coast Guard Invitational in New London on Saturday, April 9.
