Bradbury Wins Steeplechase at 2022 NEWMAC Track & Field Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Wellesley track & field Senior Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) took first place in the 3000 steeplechase at the 2022 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.

The Blue finished in seventh place overall with 35 points as a team. No.12 WPI and No. 22 MIT were crowned Co-Champions of the 2022 NEWMAC Women's Track & Field Championship with a total of 197 points. Taking third place was Springfield with 89 points.

Bradbury took gold in the steeplechase with a time of 11:17.91, a new personal best and the seventh fastest time in program history. Taking third place in the event was Junior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) who clocked a personal best 11:25.49, the eighth fastest time in history for the Blue.

Junior Kathryn Winkler (Bedford, Mass.) ran a 59.73 in the 400 Meter dash to place fifth. Just behind was first year Aoife Fitzgerald who placed sixth with a time of 1:00.64. 

Junior Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) landed a fourth place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:16.24. Also running in the event was sophomore Aidan Reid (Malibu, Calif.) who ran a 21:02.84. 

First year Erin Dickinson (Omaha, Neb.) earned a 13th place finish in the triple jump final with a best mark of 9.84 meters. In 15th place in the event was junior Ariel Traver (Palo Alto, Calif.) at 9.23 meters. 

First year Kiara Dozier (Honolulu, Hawaii) and sophomore Ana Rubin (Weston, Fla.) each competed in the shot put, as Dozier had a finals toss of 8.50m and Rubin at 7.56m.

Senior Lily Herold (Athens, Ohio) was the top finisher for the Blue in the 10000 meter run at 42:02.89 and placed 11th. In 13th place was senior Kaylee Hill (Hingham, Mass.) at 43:38.86 and in 17th was classmate Amy Tao (Hong Kong, China) with a time of 45:52.25. 

The Wellesley 4x100 meter relay team of sophomore Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.), junior Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.), Winkler, and sophomore Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.) placed sixth with a combined time of 50.17 seconds.

Darcy and first year Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) were both able to run a 13.36 in the 100 meter dash.

The Blue will next compete at the two-day New England Division III Championships starting on Friday, May 6 in Williamstown, Mass.
