Coast Guard Wins Competitive Meet With Blue Swimming and Diving, 160-125

NEW LONDON, Conn. - New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Coast Guard picked up a 160-125 win over Wellesley College swimming and diving on Friday evening at Roland Pool.

The evening began with the Blue winning the 200 Yard Medley Relay event with a time of 1:49.02. Wellesley's team consisted of first years Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.), and junior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.).

CGA took the top three spots in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, and won the 200 Yard Freestyle with Coast Guard sophomore Grace Keogh (Erie, Colo.) edging out Cantrell by half a second.

Liu took second for the Blue in 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:01.30 before Sekhon eanred a win for Wellesley with a 1:06.59 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Sophomore Cecilia Can (Palo Alto, Calif.) made it two straight event wins for Wellesley with a season-best 2:09.38 performance in the 200 Yard Butterfly.

The Bears earned the top two places in the 50 Yard Freestyle, with Mitsuoka getting third for Wellesley with a time of 25.27. Wellesley senior Claire Moreland (San Francisco, Calif.) then earned second in one-meter diving with a score of 173.62. 

Liu recorded a runner up finish in 200 Yard Backstroke and Sekhon earned her second event win of the day with a 2:24.94 in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Cai won the 500 Yard Freestyle by over three seconds with another season-best result of 5:17.95. 

Keogh led CGA to a victory in the 100 Yard Butterfly event before the Bears took first in three-meter diving, with Moreland once again placing second for Wellesley.

The Blue won both the final two events of the day. Junior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) won the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:12.13 before Wellesley's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Mitsuoka, Sekhon, junior Alice Johnson (Seattle, Wash.), and Liu swam a 1:44.69 to snatch up first place.

The Blue return home tomorrow to host Smith and Springfield in a tri-meet that will begin at 12:00 PM. The Bears travel to Clark tomorrow for a 1:00 PM meet with the Cougars.
