Blue Track and Field Breaks 4x200 Relay Record at Branwen Smith-King Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. - Wellesley College track and field set a program record in the 4x200 Meter relay and finished third out of 17 teams at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational at Tufts University on Saturday. 

Coast Guard won the meet with 189 points followed by host Tufts (171), and then Wellesley (62), who narrowed edged out Smith (61) for third.

The Blue set an all-time record in the 4x200 Meter relay with a team of junior Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.), sophomores Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.), Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas), and first year Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) running 1:50.10, less than .2 seconds behind the winning team. 

Equally impressive was first year Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) winning the 5000 meter race with a time of 18:50.18, over 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. 

Brydges wasn't the only member of the Blue to win an event. Klingensmith captured gold in the long jump with a score of 5.08m. Sophomore Erin Dickinson (Omaha, Neb.) came in eighth in the long jump to earn a point for Wellesley. Dickinson placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 9.75m.

Quaye finished sixth overall in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.43. In the prelims Quaye set a personal record running an 8.41. Sophomore Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India) finished eighth in the event with an 8.64. Quaye also placed in the 200 meter dash, finishing seventh with a time of 27.21. 

Fitzgerald earned points for Wellesley with a third place finish in the 400 meter race with a time of 1:02.43. First year Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished fifth in the same race, running a 1:03.97. 

First years Aleah Ghiasuddin (Newburyport, Mass.) and Peng finished fourth and fifth in the 800 meter event with times of 2:31.27 and 2:31.73. Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished fifth in the mile for the Blue with a time of 5:38.03.

Senior Charlotte Adams (Cincinnati, Ohio) ran a personal-best 11:57.45 in the 3000 meter race. Classmate Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) had a PR in the weight throw with a distance of 11.32m.

Wellesley competes next Saturday at 5:30 PM in the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston.
