Blue Track and Field Tops Smith, Mount Holyoke in Tri-meet

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. –  Wellesley College track and field defeated Smith and Mount Holyoke at Smith's Indoor Track and Tennis Complex on Saturday. 

The Blue scored 66 points to earn a team victory, followed by Smith with 56 and Mount Holyoke with 43.

First year Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) set a personal record with a 5.13m long jump to win the event. Klingensmith also took second in the 200 meter sprint running a 27.22. Classmate Dova Koretsky (Pepperell, Mass.) took second in the long jump with 4.89m. 

First year Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) nabbed first in the 1000 meter event with a 3:04.70. Whinney also tied for first in the high jump with 1.46m to keep up the Blue's winning ways.

Senior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) won the weight throw event for Wellesley with a distance of 10.91 while Sophomore Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) took first in the 400 meter race with a 1:01.57.

Senior Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) won the 3000 meter event by nearly twenty seconds by running a 10:28.01. Classmate Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) set a personal best in a second place finish with a time of 5:11.01 in the mile. 

Sophomore Erin Dickinson (Omaha, Neb.) and senior Ariel Traver (Palo Alto, Calif.) took second and third in the triple jump with 10.31m and 10.20m respectively. Both set personal bests in the event. Sophomore Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India) placed second in the 60 meter dash with a person best time of 8.29.

Wellesley's team of Fitzgerald, first year Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.), senior Alejandra Castillo (Chapel Hill, N.C.), and Klingensmith won the 4x400 meter race with a time of 4:14.14 before Whinney, Murphy-Weise, and first years Aleah Ghiasuddin (Newburyport, Mass.) and Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) closed out the day by winning the distance medley relay with a time of 12:59.24.

The Blue race in the New England DIII Championships beginning next Friday at 10:30 AM from The TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass.
