Wellesley Track & Field Wins Tri-Meet on Senior Day

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field won its tri-meet against Smith and Mount Holyoke on Saturday at Butler Stadium.

The Blue had great showings across the board, winning 13 events to earn 109 points. Smith finished second with 46, followed by Mount Holyoke with 40.

Following the meet, Wellesley Athletics recognized the contributions of nine seniors. The seniors honored were Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.), Alejandra Castillo (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Dallis Kehoe (Norwell, Mass.), Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.), Bethany Pasko (Wellesley, Mass.), Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.), Zoe Shaw (Portland, Ore.), Ariel Traver (Palo Alto, Calif.), and Kate Winkler (Bedford, Mass.).

Murphy-Weise set a personal best to win the 1500 meter event with a 4:49.25. Anderson placed third with a 4:57.40.

First years Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) and Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) took the top two spots in the 3000 meter steeplechase with times of 11:25.76 and 12:23.84. Classmate Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) also took first in the 400 meter dash, winning by over two seconds with a 1:01.34. Castillo earned third in the event with a 1:04.90.

Sophomore Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) captured gold in the 400 meter hurdles, running a 1:09.59 while first year Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) ran a 19:04.03 to win the5000 meter race. Classmate Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was second with a time of 19:21.60.

Wellesley had the winning 4x100 meter relay team winning with a 51.43. The team consisted of first year Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.), sophomore Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas), junior Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India). Klingensmith and Goveas both had a PR in the 200 meter event, running 26.99 and 27.38 to place first and second respectively.

The Blue also won the 4x400m relay with Barron, Fitzgerald, Whinney, and first year Aleah Ghiasuddin (Newburyport, Mass.) running a 4:15.49.

Kehoe finished second in the 100 meter hurdles race, running a 17.76. Also finishing second was Ghiasuddin in the 800 meter run with a 2:24.40.

Ogah, Quaye, Goveas, and Richardson placed first, second, fourth, and fifth in the 100 meter dash with times of 13.18, 13.29, 13.36, and 13.45. It was a personal best for Quaye and Richardson. 

In the field events sophomore Erin Dickinson (Omaha, Neb.) and Klingensmith had a 5.18m and 4.98m in the long jump, taking the top two spots. It was Dickinson's personal best. Dickinson also won the triple jump with a 10.44m (another PR) followed by Traver with a 9.96m.

Junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) won the hammer throw with a personal best 33.18m while classmate Caitlin Gordon (North Vancouver, British Columbia) was third with a 28.89m. Doyle and Gordon were also first and second in the javelin throw, with 30.52m and 26.64m respectively. First year Kenya Francis (Southwest Atlanta, Ga.) grabbed second in the shot put throwing for 10.17m. 

The Blue compete in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships from MIT next Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM.
