Wellesley Track & Field Earns Seventh at Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational; Brydges Wins 3000m

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) won the 3000m event and Wellesley College track & field earned seventh out of 11 teams at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational hosted by Brandeis University on Saturday.

Host Brandeis won the team competition with 129.5 points. Bates took second with 101.5 points, followed by Smith (74), UMass Boston (61), RPI (56), St. Anselm (53), Wellesley (50), Fitchburg State (33), Regis (29), Emmanuel (18) and Wentworth (15).

Brydges captured first out of 17 runners in the 3000m race with a personal-best time of 10:57.14. Classmate Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) claimed fifth with a time of 11:10.59.

Wellesley's 4x400m Relay Team of sophomore Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.), junior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.), and sophomores Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was the runner-up with a time of 4:22.64.

Junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) was fourth in the 60m finals with a personal-best time of 8.22. Senior Taylor Quaye (Los Angeles, Calif.) claimed 10th in the finals with a time of 8.41. Quaye took 10th place in the 200m dash with a time of 28.47.

Junior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) earned fourth in the Triple Jump with a distance of 10.09m to score five points for Wellesley. Dickinson and Klingensmith took sixth and seventh in the Long Jump with distances of 4.80m and 4.75m.

Sophomore Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) placed fifth in the Shot Put with a distance of 10.04m.

Peng was sixth in the Indoor Mile with a time of 5:31.37. 

Barron and Fitzgerald earned fifth and ninth place finishes respectively in the 400m event. Barron had a time of 1:04.61 and Fitzgerald had a time of 1:06.10.

Junior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) grabbed seventh in the Weight Throw event with a PR distance of 12.02m.

Wellesley returns on Saturday, January 20 at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts University.
