Coast Guard Defeats Blue Swimming & Diving; Sekhon Sets Pool Record in 200 Breaststroke

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Wellesley College swimming & diving sophomore Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) set a Roland Pool record in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:23.72 but Coast Guard Academy narrowly defeated the Blue 150-130 on Friday evening. 

Sekhon narrowly out-touched Coast Guard junior Ellie Hiestand (Telford, Pa.) to win the 200 Breaststroke. Classmate Lara Dashti (Kuwait) claimed third with a time of 2:28.32. Earlier, Sekhon swam a time of 1:05.49 to win the 100 Breaststroke.

Wellesley's 200 Medley Relay team of sophomore Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Sekhon, senior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) and sophomore Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.) won with a time of 1:49.75.

First year Jaya Magavi (West Hartford, Conn.) earned first in 1-Meter Diving and 3-Meter Diving with scores of 222.00 and 219.75.

Junior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) swam a time of 2:00.78 and earned second in the 200 Free behind Bears junior Grace Keogh (Erie, Colo.).

Liu and senior Mira Tang (Mercer Island, Wash.) went 2-3 in the 100 Back with respective times of 1:00.08 and 1:01.26. Tang was later second in the 200 Back with a time of 2:14.24.

Senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) was the runner-up with a time of 25.78. Mitsuoka and Cantrell had a 3-4 finish in the 100 Free. Mitsuoka had a time of 56.92 and Cantrell swam a time of 57.24.

Coast Guard first year Jayda Lippy (Phoenix, Ariz.) won the 1000 free with a time of 10:58.98. Wellesley sophomore Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.) took third with a time of 11:18.58.

Glanville and Cai finished second and third in the 100 Fly. Glanville had a time of 1:00.51 while Cai was narrowly behind with a time of 1:01.22. Glanville later took second with a time of 2:14.54 in the 200 IM and third in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:16.42. 

The Bears went 1-2-3 in the 100 and 500 Free events. Keogh captured the 100 Free while Doubrava captured first in the 500 Free.

Wellesley has a quick turnaround. The Blue compete in a tri-meet with Springfield and Smith at Springfield tomorrow at 12:00 PM. Coast Guard hosts Clark on Saturday, February 3 at 2:00 PM.
