Wellesley Swimming & Diving Opens Season at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. - Wellesley College swimming & diving competed for the first time under new Head Coach Dawn Dill against Wheaton College on Friday night at Balfour Natatorium. Wheaton (2-0) came away with a 181-109 victory over the Blue.

The 200 Medley Relay team of first year Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.), junior Lara Dashti (Kuwait City, Kuwait), sophomore Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) and senior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) claimed second with a time of 1:51.62.

Dashti scored gold in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke with winning performances of 1:07.30 and 2:26.51. Dashti later earned second in the 50 Free with a time of 26.90.

Cai followed suit by topping the 200 Fly and 200 IM with leading times of 2:09.39 and 2:13.75. Cai took the two spot in the 100 Fly with a time of 55.12

Junior Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) and first year Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) represented the Blue diving. The duo went 2-3 in 1-meter. Marsden was second with a score of 213.75. Burstein captured third with a score of 207.97. The order was the same in 3-meter with Marsden scoring a 214.75 and Burstein earning a 194.90.

Junior Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) went 2-3 in the 1000 Free. Richardson had a time of 11:17.50 and Weingarten finished with a time of 11:41.06. Richardson later put up a time of 5:37.26 to take the silver in the 500 Free.

Fender was the runner-up in the 100 Back. The first year's time of 1:01.14 was only .11 off of Wheaton's winner. Fender later added second place finishes in the 200 Back with a time of 2:14.39 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.27.

Senior Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) finished second in the 200 Breaststroke by swimming a 2:37.35.

Up next, the Blue compete against Merrick College and Simmons University in North Andover, Mass. at 6:30 PM on Friday, November 8. The Lyons will host Bridgewater State University on Friday, November 1 at 6:00 PM.
