KEENE, N.H. – Wellesley College cross country earned third place out of 23 teams at the 5k Keene State Invitational on Saturday.
Junior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) was the top finisher for the Blue, coming in fifth out of 239 total runners with a time of 18:04.10. The time was a new 5k PR for Whinney.
Classmate Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) claimed 11th overall with a personal best time of 18:23.40. Junior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) had a new 5k record time of 18:52.60 to take 21st overall.Â
Senior Alicia Naranjo-Champion (El Monte, Calif.) (55th - 19:45.60) and junior Elise Lanahan (Greensville, S.C.) (61st - 19:58.30) both scored for the Blue to help the team lock up the bronze.
First years Helen Yang (Los Angeles, Calif.) (71st - 20:16.70) and Adelaide Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (110th - 21:11.70) and senior Jesenia Lopez (Fontana, Calif.) (192nd - 23:44.60) rounded out the competitors for Wellesley.
Williams College won the team competition with five of the top seven finishers and a score of 19. Host Keene State University earned second with a score of 117, followed by the Blue (127), Westfield State University (141) and Tufts University (157). Fellow NEWMAC schools Mount Holyoke College (6th - 180), Babson College (7th - 191) and Wheaton College (14th - 453) also competed.
