POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Wellesley College fencing won all seven of its matches to top the field at the Vassar Invitational on Sunday.
Sabre squad recorded four shutouts in a 7-0 day. Sophomore Rebecca Hsieh (Annadale, Va.) and debuting Judy Bang (Seoul, South Korea) were able to pick up 12 wins apiece. First year Emily Zhao (Yorktown, Va.) and senior Makana Burch (Portland, Ore.) both registered double-digit victories.
Foil squad went undefeated on Sunday. Junior Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) led the unit with 13 bout victories. Sophomores Lauren Khoo (San Francisco, Calif.) and Phoebe Li (Palo Alto, Calif.) each notched 11 wins and senior Leena Hobson (Oakland, Calif.) and first year Daisy Wiseman (Austin, Texas) added seven points each.
Sophomore Alisha Li (Warren, N.J.) led the production for the epee squad with 11 wins. First year Julia Peeler (Fairfax, Va.) and Sissi Zou (Beijing, China) made a difference with nine victories each.
Wellesley 20, Stevens 7
Foil won all of its matches with Hobson, Huang and Khoo each grabbing three wins. A. Li and Zou won two bouts each for epee while Peeler and sophomore Riley Weed (Guilford, Conn.) both took a win. Bang and Burch went 2-1 in sabre while Zhao added the fifth point for a squad victory.
Wellesley 23, Fairleigh Dickinson 4
Sabre saw wins from Bang, Hsieh and Zhao with six points gifted to the Blue via forfeit. P. Li and Wiseman swept three matches in foil while Hobson tacked on two wins. Senior Elena Vona (Millstone, N.J.) and A. Li tallied a pair of wins in epee and Zou and Peeler got the squad its fifth and sixth points.
Wellesley 16, Cleveland State 11
P. Li, Huang and Wiseman combined for six points to help foil win. Epic also won 6-3, with A. Li, Peeler, Vona and Zou scoring points. Burch won two epee matches and Zhao and Hsieh both added a point.
Wellesley 18, Lafayette 9
Sabre swept Lafayette with 3-0 showings from Burch, Hsieh, Zhao. Huang and Khoo both captured a trio of wins for foil. A. Li, Peeler and Weed all tallied once for epee.
Wellesley 19, LIU 8
Zou won three matches to epee. Peeler and A. Li both finished 2-1. Foil won six of nine matches, taking two wins apiece from Huang, Khoo and P. Li. Burch and Zhao won twice for sabre while Bang and Hsieh nabbed a win.
Wellesley 24, Hunter 3
Bang, Burch and Hsieh were all spotless in a 9-0 sabre squad win. P. Li and Khoo finished three for three in foil while Wiseman claimed two wins. Weed, Vona, A. Li, Peeler and Zou each won at least one bout in a 6-3 epee win.
Wellesley 22, Haverford 5
Bang, Hsieh and Zhao teamed up to take all nine sabre points. Epee won seven bouts. Peeler, Vona and Weed all won two matches and A. Li claimed a victory. Huang was spotless in foil and Hobson and Wiseman added a combined three points.
