Blue Swimming & Diving Hosts Coast Guard and Connecticut College

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving returned to Chandler Pool for the first time in nearly a year against Coast Guard Academy and Connecticut College on Saturday. The Blue fell 189-99 against Coast Guard and 179-109 versus Connecticut College.

First year Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.), junior Lara Dashti (Kuwait City, Kuwait), sophomore Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) and senior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) lead off the meet with a time of 1:51.98 in the 200 Medley Relay to take third.

Fender recorded a first place finish in the 100 Back, breaking the minute-mark with a time of 59.88.

Dashti took the top spot in the 100 Breaststroke, leading the field with a time of 1:07.49. In the 200 Breaststroke, Dashti captured silver with a time of 2:26.62, a mere .22 seconds off of the leader. Senior Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) tallied sixth in the 200 Breaststroke with a 2:37.88 mark.

Junior Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) and first year Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) went 1-2 in 1-Meter Diving. Marsden earned gold with a score of 252.05, just shy of an NCAA Regional Qualifying total. Burstein finished second with 235.95. The duo also went 1-2 in 3-Meter Diving. Marsden was first with 260.75 points while Burstein followed with 212.00 points.

Cai was the 200 Fly winner with a 2:09.27 performance. First year Grace Hu (Andover, Mass.) claimed fourth in the event with a time of 2:16.48. Cai later added a second place finish to the day, this time clocking in at 54.87 in the 100 Free.

The Blue will return to action at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 AM. Coast Guard races at Springfield College at the same date and time while Connecticut College travels to Middlebury College at 1:00 PM on the 23rd.
