HOPKINTON, N.H. – Wellesley College cross country finished eighth out of 30 teams at the 6k 2024 NCAA East Regional Championship on Saturday at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. Junior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) captured third out of 192 total runners with a time of 21:52.69 to take All-Region honors.
MIT won the team competition with a score of 56. Tufts (67), Bates (147), Colby (148), Suffolk (148), Bowdoin (186), Keene State (207), the Blue (224), Brandeis (296) and Gordon (308) made up the rest of the top ten.
Junior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was Wellesley's second finisher, placing 40th with the clock reading 23:25.25. Classmate Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) was just behind Peng in 45th with a time of 23:38.84.Â
Senior Alicia Naranjo-Champion (El Monte, Calif.) scored for the Blue by running a 23:51.98 race that was good for 57th place. Rounding out the team scoring was first year Helen Yang (Los Angeles, Calif.) in 89th place with a time of 24:57.56.Â
First year Adelaide Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) and junior Elise Lanahan (Greensville, S.C.) both competed for the Blue. Maguire took 103rd with a time of 25:13.20. Lanahan claimed 106th with a final time of 25:15.65.
