Wellesley Cross Country Takes Fifth at NEWMAC Championships; Whinney Earns All-Conference

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College cross country captured fifth out of 12 teams at the annual 6k NEWMAC Championships, hosted at Nehoiden Golf Club on Saturday morning.

Junior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) placed seventh out of 118 individuals with a time of 22:01.9. Whinney collected her second consecutive NEWMAC All-Conference Team honor with the performance.

MIT earned its 17th consecutive NEWMAC Championship with a team score of 16. The Bears of Coast Guard took second with a score of 53. Smith (71) rounded out the top three. Mount Holyoke (168), Wellesley (176), Springfield (203), Babson (207), Clark (208), Salve Regina (237), WPI (258), Emerson (265) and Wheaton (267) rounded out the competition. MIT junior Kate Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) won the individual race with a top time of 21:40.12.

Junior Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) finished 36th overall with a time of 23:50.76. First year Helen Yang (Los Angeles, Calif.) claimed third for the Blue taking 49th with a personal-best time of 24:35.8. Senior Alicia Naranjo-Champion (El Monte, Calif.) (55th - 24:43.6) and junior Elise Lanahan (Greensville, S.C.) (69th - 25:18.3).

First year Adelaide Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (74th - 25:29.4) and sophomore Maggie Yan (Montvale, N.J.) (86th - 26:14.4) each competed for the Blue.

The Blue are set to compete in the NCAA East Regional Championship on Saturday, November 16 at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H.
